Merry Christmas, fellow primates!

I like listening to Christmas music. It puts me in a good mood and brings back good memories. I have a handful of favorites, that I listen to on repeat every December, that includes:

“Christmas for Cowboys” by John Denver

The Smoky Mountain Christmas version of “I Saw Three Ships”

James Taylor’s version of “Go Tell It On The Mountain”

“A Christmas Jig” by Yo-Yo Ma

“Child’s Prayer” by Chicago

and anything on Amy Grant’s Home for Christmas album

I have been listening to many of these songs since before I can remember, but something new occurred to me this year: What if we all thought about the Earth with the same love and reverence with which we sing about Jesus at Christmastime? What if every night was as divine as the night that Christ was born because it is another night of life on this planet that with share with so many other divine beings?

Pure of heart, this starry night, we lay our hearts before her.

O come, let us adore her!

Like John Denver wrote in “Alfie the Christmas Tree,”

Say a prayer for the wind and the water and the wood, and those who live there too.
